Vintage Christmas Cards

Something that we haven't previously mentioned on the blog, is that
sadly my Grandma passed away back in February. She was 96
and lived a happy and active life. She was also very creative
and loved to knit, bake and look after her garden. She was also
very imaginative with Birthday cakes for my brother and I. Some
of these included The Starship Enterprise, A Circus and a snowman.
It will be strange not having her at the Christmas Dinner Table this year.

Mother ( that's what we called her ) was also a hoarder and she hated to
throw things away. So during the house clearance we have found lots of
treasures, including these vintage Christmas cards, complete with envelops
that she had never used.

Here is a verse from one of the cards
There comes a message with this card
which cannot all be told,
each single word would have to be
a volume to unfold.
A part of what is wished you here
that love, joy, peace, goodwill,
may bless your Christmastide, and make
The New Year happier still.

Join us again later as we open the first door of our
2010 Advent Calendar.

I love these vintage cards. I've a hoard that my grandmother kept but they are cards she received and I treasure the messages from long ago friends and family. Its very sad to lose the oldest family members but 'Mother' sounds to have enjoyed many happy and creative years - I hope we can all look forward to such an active life - something I definitely believe keeps old age at bay for longer.
