Behind door number 8 are these spiders webs garnished
with frost, and make enchanting outdoor decorations.

Two Turtle Doves

Well not quite - These two Collared Doves are behind
door number 7, and were taken in my Mum and Dads
garden on Christmas Day last year.

Door number 6 today, and as we open it we reveal a view of
The Dajon Garden at night complete with let it snow flag
and festive lights.

Poinsettia

Today we open door 5 on our Advent Calendar, and its a
Poinsettia ( Euphorbia Pulcherrima )
This popular plant is used to decorate at Christmas.
The plants association with Christmas began in Mexico
in the 16th Century. Legend is that a girl was too poor
to provide a gift to celebrate the birth of Jesus. So an
angel told her to collect weeds and place them at the
church alter. Crimson blossoms flowered from the weeds
and became Poinsettias.

Cute little house

Door number 4 and it's a cute little house on display in a
Provincetown shop window. Made using driftwood, pine cones
pebbles and other things found on a trip to the beach or woods.

Christmas Tree at The Oxford

Behind door 3 is The Christmas Tree at The Oxford which
we helped to decorate during one of our Thanksgiving trips.
The red felt heart towards the top, was made by our friend
Ursula from The Laal Bear. Visit The Laal Bears stall
over the next three weekends at The Grassington Dickensian
Festival.

Snowdrops at Lytham Hall

Behind door number 2 we have some snowdrops taken
last February at Lytham Hall.

Next week we shall be selling our cards at the Lytham Hall
Christmas Lunches.

Advent Calendar

Each day we will open a door on the calendar and reveal
a Christmas related Picture or some of our favorite things
or memories.

So behind door number 1 is The Dajon Garden in a picture
taken this morning with everything coated in a garnish of frost.

Mum and Dad's Christmas Tree

Christmas trees are starting to appear in houses around and
about.

So behind door number 2 is Mum and Dad's tree.
They had put it up early, as I stayed over last weekend while
doing the craft fair. It is full of memories as we often bought
a new ornament for the tree when on family holidays.
We will have a closer look at some of our tree ornaments later
in the month.

Jack Frost

We have had our first real taste of winter weather this week.
With it brings difficult conditions for driving and getting around.
However it can also be very beautiful.

Door number 5 shows pretty natural outdoor Christmas decorations
with strands of frost coated spiders webs.

Star of Wonder

Christmas Pyramid

Door number 7 shows a traditional German Christmas decoration.
The Christmas pyramid, traditionally made from wood. It is a type of
carousel with several layers featuring nativity figures or Christmas
icons. Candles are lit under the propellers and the heat makes it turn.
This large version was at one of the Christmas markets in Manchester.

Lobster Pot Tree

As we open the eighth door on our blog Advent Calendar,
we reveal a picture of the lobster pot tree in Provincetown. For the 5th year Provincetown artist Julian Popko has built this
tree in Lopes Square. Using over 80 lobster traps and over 50
plastic lobsters and lots of red bows. The tree is lit up at night
by 4,500 tiny lights.

Deck the Halls

Behind door number 9 we find some holly.
Along with mistletoe and ivy, holly is a traditional Christmas
decoration, and is often used in wreaths to hang on your front door.

This picture was taken in October in Mum and Dads garden, however
the birds have now eaten most of the berries.

Christmas Goodies from The Laal Bear

Our friends Ursula and Phil from The Laal Bear have a busy few
days ahead of them. Get into a festive mood and visit them at

Thursday 11th December Craft and food marquee in
Blackburn town centre.

Saturday 13th December at The Grassington Dickensian Festival

Sunday 14th December Craft Fair Samlesbury Hall nr Preston.

So behind door number 10 we have a selection of felt Christmas
tree decorations, handmade by Ursula.

Advent Calendar Catch Up

Apologies to everyone who has been following the calendar
each day. We have been in London celebrating my 40th
Birthday, but more about that after the weekend.

So lets get back to the countdown to Christmas.

Behind door number 12 is a Birthday cake.

Today was my 40th Birthday ( this is not my 40th cake , but the picture

has a lovely Christmas glow with the tree and candles.)

Herring Cove Beach on a Winter day

For door number 13 we have a picture taken on Herring Cove Beach
Provincetown. The sun was shinning, but is was very cold. It was
strange to see the beach so deserted, as in the summer it is
full of people sunbathing, flying kites, playing games, fishing etc.

Meet Chicky

This little bit of mucky looking fluff behind door 14 is Chicky,
and he is almost as old as me. Originally a decoration on an Easter
cake my grandma made when I was about three. Then for some reason
ever since, he has taken pride of place on Mum and Dad's Christmas tree.
Each year, we make him a nest out of tinsel, and put in on a branch near
a light. We love him.

It Started With Swap Shop

On 15th December 2006 we were lucky enough to be in the
audience at BBC TV Centre for the recording of a very special
programme. It started with swap Shop was a reunion show
of the popular Saturday morning children's TV show SWAP SHOP.
The programme was then shown on BBC 2 over the festive period.

So door 15, is me wearing my Swap Shop hat which all the members
of the audience were given to wear during the show and as a memento
of a very special night.

All Set Up

Behind door number 17 is one of my favorite ornaments from
Mum and Dads Christmas Tree, She looks like she is dancing.
